Flavonoids: Potential Candidates for the Treatment of Neurodegenerative Disorders

نویسندگان

چکیده

Neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease (PD), Alzheimer’s (AD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Huntington’s (HD), are the most concerning disorders due to lack of effective therapy dramatic rise in affected cases. Although these have diverse clinical manifestations, they all share a common cellular stress response. These responses including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, proteotoxicity, endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress, which combats with conditions. Environmental stress/toxicity weakened response results cell damage. Small molecules, flavonoids, could reduce gained much attention recent years. Evidence has shown potential use flavonoids several ways, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, yet their mechanism is still elusive. This review provides an insight into role against that prevent pathogenesis neurodegenerative disorders.

Neuroprotective properties of glycosaminoglycans: potential treatment for neurodegenerative disorders.

Previous studies suggest that proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) may play an important role in the pathogenesis and/or alleviation of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Proteoglycans increase the formation of neurofibrillary tangles, and stimulate the aggregation of beta-amyloid (Abeta). This effect, on the other hand, is believed to be competitively inhib...

Bio-effectiveness of the main flavonoids of Achillea millefolium in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders- a review

The Achillea millefolium L. (Yarrow) is a common herb which is widely being used, worldwide. Achillea is being used for treatment of many disorders since centuries. It is considered safe for supplemental use and flavonoids such as kaempferol, luteolin and apigenin are of main constituents present in Achillea. Most of both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this herb have been attri...

Potential of redox therapies in neurodegenerative disorders.

Recently significant advances have been made to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders to provide real therapeutic benefits. There is evidence that persistent inflammation and oxidative stress are the crucial factors of ongoing cell damage in neurodegenerative complex etiology. The variety of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species are the cause of both axonal ...
